Suzana Braga Rodrigues

Suzana Braga Rodrigues is Senior Researcher of International Strategy of CNPq – National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. In 2024, she has received the award Life Time Achievement from ANPAD – the Brazilian Academy of Management. Suzana B Rodrigues is Senior Professor of International Strategy at Universidade FUMEC, Brazil.

She holds a PhD degree in Management Studies from Bradford Management School, UK. In 1985, Suzana obtained a Fulbright Award for post-doctoral studies in the USA. She also did post-doctoral research at the Judge School of Business, University of Cambridge, in 1990, first as a member of Lucy Cavendish College. Prior to joining Erasmus University as an Emeritus Professor of Business-Society Management, Suzana was Professor at both the University of Birmingham, UK (2004-2009) and the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil (1980-2004).

In her early career in Brazil, Suzana was for six years Coordinator of the Master Course in Management and was Founder and Director of CTIT – Center for Technology Transfer and Innovation at UFMG. Suzana was member of ANPAD’s (The Brazilian Academy of Management) board, first as its Administrative and Scientific Director and later as President (1994-2000) of the Brazilian Academy. She was member of high committees for assessment of high education and research quality at the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Science and Technology in Brazil and member of the Committee for Research Assessment of FAPEMIG – The State of Minas Gerais Foundation of Research Support.

In the UK at the University of Birmingham, she was Full Professor of International Business and Organization and Director of the Master Program in International Business. She was also one of the founders and the Director of the Centre for International Business and Organization Research at the Birmingham Business School. She was Full Professor of International Business at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University,  and was the Scientific Director of the Erasmus Centre for Emerging Markets.

She held visiting positions in many prestigious universities across the globe, including the Judge Business School in Cambridge, Aston University Business School, Guanghua School of Management, Peking University, China; the University of Hong Kong; INSEAD, France; Nova School of Business and Economics, Portugal; the University of St Andrews, Scotland, and Queen’s University Business School, Belfast. She is Beaufort Visiting Scholar, St. John’s College, University of Cambridge, Cambridge. Suzana’s teaching experience includes undergraduate, post-graduate, and executive courses in the areas of international business, corporate governance, organization studies and research methodology.

Suzana’s current research focuses on the international strategies of multinational corporations (MNCs) and small and medium enterprises (SMEs), from the co-evolutionary, institutional and sustainability perspectives. Research on multinationals included case studies of Brazilian State-Owned enterprises, automotive and mining firms operating in Brazil. Currently, Suzana’s research projects that are supported by Cnpq- involve studies of public-private partnerships in infrastructure and sustainable projects. The latter research line has received the support of CNPq – Brazilian National Research Council.
During her term at Erasmus University, she received an award as a high-performer member of Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM). In September 2013, her work was recognized by a significant honor from Erasmus University: The Professor Suzana Rodrigues Erasmus University-Fulbright Scholarship. In 2015, together with Professor John Child, she received the Chinese Management Best Paper Award in Chinese Theory of Management from the International Association of Chinese Management Research. In 2009, her book Corporate Co-evolution: A Political Perspective (co-authored with John Child) won one of the most prestigious awards in the management field: the Terry Book Award from the Academy of Management. Her work on Coevolution Dynamics (Child, Tse and Rodrigues, 2013), presents an in-depth analysis of the market and non-market strategies of the Yantian Port in China.

Suzana’s work on international business, corporate governance and organization studies has been published in several Brazilian periodicals and international journals, such as: Journal of International Business Studies; Journal of World Business; Multinational Business Review, Journal of International Management; International Journal of Management and Governance; Corporate Governance: An International Review; Management International Review; Management & Organization Review; Journal of Management Studies; Organization Studies; Human Relations. Her work also appears in Brazilian journals such as: BAR-Brazilian Administration Review, Revista de Administração Contemporânea; RAE – Revista de Administração de Empresas; Organização e Sociedade; Revista de Administração da USP; Economia e Gestão.
